You’re Engaged!!

So you’re probably still on Cloud Nine, but you’ve got a wedding to plan! Here are my top tips on where to start…

1. Write a guest list

It will give you a good starting point, and will be really helpful when you come to discuss budgets. Even the difference between 150 guests and 120 guests, can have a big impact, so this will really make you think about what (and who) is important.

2. Create a budget

This can be a bit boring, but it is essential – and needs to be done early on. It is easy to get carried away with things (I mean, who doesn’t need an 11 tier naked cake sprinkled with edible gold….) – but being able to go back to your budget will  help you to stay grounded. It will also help you decide what you do and don’t want to spend money on. Do you want a videographer? Do you need to provide wedding favours? Can you do an electronic ‘Save the Date’?

If you would like a totally FREE budget planner – email me on hello@alexandriaevents.co.uk and I will pop one over to you.

3. Enjoy!!

This is the time to be celebrating with friends and family, drinking lots of champagne, and staring at your engagement ring every five minutes. Weddings are amazing, and marriages even better, but there is nothing like being engaged, and it will be over before you know it, so make the most of this time!

I hope you’ve found this useful – and if you have any more questions please do drop me a line – hello@alexandriaevents.co.uk

Wedding Colour Palettes // Midnight Blue Wedding

// Midnight Blue //

I recently did a styled shoot based on this beautiful colour, salve at the gorgeous Millbridge Court, web with a host of fabulous wedding suppliers. Whilst I am dying to share the images with you (taken by the very talented Daria from Plenty to Declare) we are in the process of submitting them to a publication, so we need to keep them private for now. In the meantime, here is a colour palette post focussing on Midnight Blue.

This is a great colour for a wedding, and looks great in all seasons. Midnight Blue and copper or even grey looks fab for a winter wedding, or you can add peachy tones or coral in the summer. What do you think? Have you been to a Midnight Blue wedding?

This time, I have two moodboards for you, one is the same as usual, using a host of midnight blue inspired images, from patterns to home decor, to nail polish! But this time, I have also included a wedding board, giving you some direct ideas of how you can incorporate Midnight Blue into your wedding. Enjoy!

Finding your Hampshire Wedding Venue

// Hampshire Wedding Venues //

I find that the hardest thing about planning a wedding is finding the perfect venue. Everyone has an idea of where or how they want to celebrate their big day, but there is so much choice out there, and initially, this can be overwhelming for the newly-engaged couple. So I have handpicked some of my favourite wedding venues, some of which I have worked at myself, some that are in the diary for next year, and some that I am just admiring from afar, and hoping to work with in the future!

If you’re looking for rustic…

The Barn at Bury Court

This Hampshire wedding venue is in Bentley, a village that I lived in myself until not too long ago. The surroundings are picturesque, and they have a lovely walled garden which is perfect for those couples shots. The barn itself is very roomy and  has a gallery level which is perfect for a photobooth or relaxing later on in the evening, and watching your guests dance the night away. One of my lovely clients, Kate, is getting married there next August, and I can’t wait to work at this beautiful barn.

Rivervale Barn

A pretty Hampshire wedding venue in Yateley, perfect if you love the barn-look but don’t want to compromise on light and space. This venue has high vaulted ceilings and lots of windows looking out onto the beautiful surroundings. They also have a cosy honeymoon cottage for your first night as newly-weds.

If you’re looking for Luxe…

Four Seasons Hampshire

If you’ve read any of my other blog post, you might already know I am a big fan of the Four Seasons Hotel in Dogmersfield, here is a summary of their recent Wedding Showcase. This really is a fab Hampshire wedding venue, with a dedicated ‘wedding space’ and plenty of activities to keep your guests busy, should they wish to make a long weekend of it. The thing that stands out the most for me though, are the staff at Four Seasons, the level of service is impeccable, and this really makes a difference to the whole experience.

Limewood

Set in the heart of the New Forest, Limewood is the ultimate Hampshire wedding venue for a luxurious, yet intimate affair. They offer weddings with exclusive use of the hotel, from Mondays-Thursdays, for up to 60 guests. This place is perfect for a couple who want a smaller wedding, but really want to give their guests an amazing experience. Take a look at their Herb House Spa – it is amazing!

If you’re looking for ‘English Country Manor’…

Tylney Hall

My parents live just down the road from this Hampshire wedding venue, so I knew it quite well even before I became a wedding planner. The part I love the most about Tylney Hall, is the driveway leading up to the house. It really has the wow factor, and the views from the back of the property don’t disappoint either. The ceremony and reception rooms are very traditional, with oak-panelled walls, heavy curtains, and what I call ‘statement carpets’ – everything you would expect from a traditional English country manor house, and perfect for the classic couple.

Avington Park

This private home, near Winchester, is the ideal wedding venue for an mid-sized wedding (around 100 guests) inside the main house, or for larger numbers, a marquee can be erected in the grounds. This Hampshire wedding venue offers exclusive use, so it will really feel like yours for the day,

If you’re looking for a countryside retreat…

Froyle Park

This Jacobean manor house has only recently been converted into a stunning wedding venue. Surrounded by rolling Hampshire hills, this really is an idyllic setting for your wedding day. For those that want to get married at church, St Mary’s is only a short walk from the venue, or you can get married at Froyle Park itself, they also now have an outdoor licence, so you can say your vows in front of the stunning landscape.

Lainston House

A lovely Hampshire wedding venue near Winchester, full of charm, and perfect for a small and intimate wedding as they have a host of cosy rooms, perfect for a small ceremony or reception. On the other end of the scale, they can also provide a marquee for up to 350 guests, and have an outdoor pavilion where you can hold your ceremony.
